Peer education is a project where a group of students, usually made up of the oldest, chooses a topic, such as alcohol, drugs, sex, bullying, cyber bullying etc., and organizes meeting during which they share their experiences without feeling judged.
During the meetings all teachers are absent from the classroom. In our opinion, this project is very helpful because when you’re in your first year you feel distant from the older students; this project makes you feel closer.
During the project we met with other schools like Narni and Orvieto. It was useful for having new experiences and making new friends and it can help you open up.
This year we have spoken about drugs with one of the first year ITT classes, and in the other we spoke about alcohol. With the 3rd year we have focused on sex education.
There are 20 students that participate in this project at our school.
During each meeting the students create posters on the subject matter discussed. Nobody leads the group. Students and professors are peers, and nobody has authority over anyone.
The entire group collaborates or works in small groups.
It’s a very interesting project, so…WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? JOIN US!
I think this project is a really fantastic idea. Every school needs something like this. Talking is good, and allowing space for students to say what they think and feel is fundamental to a healthy education!
This project is amazing. It gives you the opportunity to express yourself. You can speak about important topic like drugs, sex education and alcohol. It’s important because it gives to the student the possibility to say what he thinks without being judged.
This project makes you feel closer to the other classmates. The absence of the teacher is a good thing because the students may be afraid to speak at the presence of them.
