The first of May is also know as International Workers’ Day.

May Day is a celebration which was established in the past to create an 8-hour working day for the working class. It is promoted by the International Labour Movement.

In Italy this day is mostly famously celebrated in Piazza San Giovanni in Rome with a big concert called “Concertone” for its long duration. It’s organized by the trade unions CGL, CISL and UIL.

On stage, there are many indie artists from the Italian scene, as well as a foreign artist. In 2018 more than 30 thousand people attended. The concert is also transmitted on tv and on the radio. This year there were 34 artists including Noel Gallagher, Gazzelle, Manuel Agnelli, Canova, Subsonica and Ghali.

It was a fun and unforgettable time, but also very wet!

I lived in San Giovanni in Rome for 12 years and I can say that I did enjoy the concerts at first but then I got pretty fed up! I lived a 5 minute walk from the square…sooo many people and loud music practice for days before the actual concert. I am happy that you enjoyed it though 🙂
